The Division of Forest Products was established in 1928, part of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), now the CSIRO. In 1971 the Division was broken up, becoming part of both the Division of Building Research and the Division of Applied Chemistry.
The Division of Forest Products was transferred to form part of the Division of Forestry and Forest Products at the end of 1987. The remainder combined with the Division of Energy Technology (Vic) to
form the Division of Construction and Engineering which commenced
operations from 1 January 1988.

Established in 1991, when the Division of Forestry and Forest Products was divided into its two components, the Division of Forest Products existed for five years. In 1995 the Division joined the Division of Forestry, once again forming the Division of Forestry and Forest Products.

In 197u, the Division of Forest Products became part of the Division of Chemical Technology; in 1983? the Division of Chemical Technology became the Division of Chemical and Wood Technology; on Jan. 1988, the forest products programs of the Division of Chemical and Wood Technology merged with the CSIRO Division of Forest Research to form the CSIRO Division of Forestry and Forest Products; on Jan. 1, 1991, the Division of Forestry and Forest Products split to form the CSIRO Division of Forestry and the new CSIRO Division of Forest Products. In 1996 the Division of Forest Products merged with the Division of Forestry to form Forestry and Forest Products. Works by these bodies are entered under the name used at the time of publication.
