Grace Boelke was one of the first women medical graduates of the University of Sydney. Founder of the Professional Women's Association, she was a strong advocate of improved conditions for women. During her lifetime, Boelke held positions in a variety of community organisations, including:

  • Appointed resident medical officer at the Maternity Hospital of the Sydney Benevolent Society. Later in her career she was employed by the NSW Government Department of Public Instruction in the medical branch and at Berlei Limited as Medical Director
  • Graduated from the University of Sydney with the degrees Bachelor of Medicine (MB) and Master of Surgery (ChM). She and Iza Coghlan were the first women medical graduates of the University of Sydney
  • Married Paul Wilhlem Boelke (1863-1923, born Berlin), also a doctor
  • Formed the Professional Women's Association, which aimed to bring together professional women interested in improving the conditions of women and children
  • Travelled to Britain and the United States to investigate hygienic research work, especially in relation to women and children

Grace Boelke, née Robinson, was one of the first two women medical graduates of the University of Sydney, 1893.

  • Education - Bachelor of Medicine (MB), Master of Surgery (ChM) completed at the University of Sydney
  • Career position - Resident Medical Officer at the Benevolent Asylum in Pitt Street
  • Career position - Assistant Medical Inspecting Officer at the Department of Public Instruction (she resigned her post and her membership of the British Medical Association when the State Branch questioned the suitability of her appointment)
  • Career position - Founder of the Professional Women's Association
  • Career position - Convenor of the standing committee on health with the National Council of Women of New South Wales
  • Career position - Travelled abroad to inquire into the state of health of women and children, and to investigate circumstances in the workplace
  • Career position - Founding member of the State branch of the League of Nations Union
  • Career position - Medical Director at Berlei Ltd.
