Biographies

Albert Pugsley was Director of the Agricultural Research Centre in Wagga Wagga from 1953 until his retirement in 1975. He developed and bred a number of wheat varieties adapted for different climates. Pugsley later accepted an honorary appointment as Senior Associate in Plant sciences at the University of Melbourne, which he held from 1978-1986.

Dr. Pugsley was educated at Scotch College, the University of Melbourne where he graduated as a B.Agr.Sc., and Adelaide University where he gained a B.Sc. In 1934 he was employed by the Victorian Dept. of Agriculture as a plant pathologist and from 1939 he worked as a plant geneticist at the Waite Research Institute in Adelaide. Dr. Pugsley was appointed Director of the Agricultural Research Institute in New South Wales in 1953.
