LEOPOLD NOT

WANTED

Unrest In Belgium

Government' Resigns

LONDON, Sunday.

rb Belgian Government has

resigned following an official

announcement that King Leopold intends to return to the country. f There is tuirest everywhere, for the ' king is not wanted by his people.

After M. Vereker (Prime Minister) had been- informed of Leopold's intention he issued the following communique:—

"My Government cannot assume responsibility for any political events which must develop throughout' the country following the King's return, so the Government resignation has been handed to the Regent."

Liberal and Socialist Ministers in a joint statement said that they would not serve in any Cabinet under Leopold.

There is a report that a general strike of workers will be called if the King does return. The British ' United Piess correspondent in Brussels says that all railways and communications services will become involved in the general stoppage. Gendannes are already guarding the main railway stations and radio stations.

There are party differences in Southern Eelgium, particularly in Liege, Charleioi, and Mons, which are likely to be bitterly opposed to Leopold's

return.
