THE WESTERN

AUSSIE A LIAN

JOURNAL.

SATURDAY, JUNE 3, 1843.

Neither conscience nor taste will suffer

me to fight one class or interest against another, for separate benefit or to take the narrow ground of undeviating panegyric."

This has I been a week of preparation, and the enjoyment of the usual festivals provided for all classes on the 1st June. We have given a general report of the whole proceedings, and - bear testimony to this being one of the best displays, in every respect, which we have witnessed in this Colony, whether we speak of the races or the ball. The ! spirited manner in which, all the

proceedings were conducted, give a happy omen of future prosperity; and the unity of intentions thus displayed is alike honorable to all. Our fervent desire is, that this sportive season, on its annual recurrence, may be singularly conducive to hilarity, and attended with the like results which have crowned the present efforts.
