METEOROLOGY OF AUSTRALASIA.

CHIEF WEATHER BUREAU,

Brisbane, 9 a.m., 19th October.

SYNOPSIS.

Western Australia-the weather is more or

less cloudy generally. Sea smooth to moderate.

Northern Territory and Central Australia.With the exception of cloud in the north the conditions are fine under south-east currents.

South Australia In the far north fine ; else-where generally cloudy to gloomy. Sea smooth. Rainfalls: Cape Borda and Cape Northumberland, O 2in.; Robe, OOlin.

North Queensland : Thunderstorms and rain have occurred at many places since our last report, and to-day we note cloudy to dull conditions generally to raining at a few stations. Wind between south-east and north-east. Sea moderate to fresh. South Queensland : in the far interior the weather is fine, but in eastern and especially seaboard districts cloudy and close conditions are generally with rain falling here and there. Varying rainfall has been recorded in connection with thunderstorms in eastern regions. The sea is moderate to fresh. Extreme temperatures :North division 100deg. at Normanton, 60 deg. at Boulia and Richmond. Central division 100deg. at Camooweal, 22deg. at Tambo. South division 24deg. at Dalby, Roma, and Windorah, 42deg. at Wallangarra. Brisbane and suburbs : Wickham-terrace, 75deg. and Gldeg.; New Farm, 39deg. and 42deg.; South Brisbane, 77deg. and GSdag.; Toowong, 78deg. and Gldeg,; Albion, 78deg. and 32deg.; Bulimba, 80deg. and 90deg.; Ithaca Valley, 78deg. and Clues.; Bowen Park, 75deg. and 60deg.; Botanic Gardens, 75deg. and GOdeg.; Kangaroo Point, 74deg. and 32deg.

New South Wales. Chiefly fine ; cloudy to gloomy on the northern highlands. Scattered stations have registered light rain. Gabo, 640a. Sea generally smooth.

Victoria-lane, but mostly cloudy ; showery or gloomy on the coast with squalls. Scattered rain has fallen. Portland, 107th.; Capo Ot-way. 90in. Son moderate to fresh,

Tasmania. Gloomy weather is general under north to west winds. Rainfall : Circular Head,

New Zealand.-Fino and clear throughout, under fresh to strong north-west to south-west winds. Rainfall : Wellington, 0 45in.

General Remarks. Pressure over the continent generally is moderately high. Low barometers are noted between Tasmania and

New Zealand.

FORECASTS, 5 p.m., 19th October:

Western Australia. Fine generally; becoming cloudy with some rain in the south-west

and south.

Northern Territory and Central Australia.Mostly fine throughout ; some cloud here and

there.

South Australia.-Generally fine with scattered cloud a tendency to showers in the south

and south-east. Sea moderate.

North Queensland. More or less cloudy in eastern and far northern parts, with rain here and there in connection with electric disturbances. Fair in the interior, and conditions again becoming favourable for electric disturbances. Winds south-east, coast, and north-east. Sea moderate.

South Queensland Chiefly cloudy ; passing showers alternating with times of clearing sky in places. The interior is again likely to exparlance electric disturbances, which in turn will affect the east. Sea moderate.

Victoria and Tasmania. Yet chiefly cloudy with' fresh winds and some showers. Sea fresh but moderating.

Now Zealand. Becoming cloudy and squally with rain ; sea freshening.
