MANILA, Wednesday (AAP-Reuter). -. More than. 2,000 government employees, including 69 provincial governors or city mayors, were being investigated or had been charged over abuse of authority, graft and harassment, the Times Journal newspaper said yesterday.

investigations began, follows a statement by President Marcos at the weekend that a purgeof national and local civil servants abusing their - positions was in. the offing,

... The. Times . Journal said 32 proyinclat governors, 47 city mayors and rriore than 400 leaders of local bodies we're being investigated or had already been charged. Some military men had also been dismissed for abuse of.power, said the report, which quoted sources in a Cabinet investigating committee.

It has been alleged that some local officials .attempted to stuff ballot boxes in last week's Tcfercndum-plebiscitc, in which, people were asked to back the President's four-year-old martial-law regime.
