  11. NEW ZEALAND'S WORST RAILWAY DISASTER.

    The greatest disaster In the history of the New Zealand railways occurred early on the morning of July 6 on the Auckland to Wellington main trunk line near Ongaruhe, 160 miles from Auckland, as the result of a landslip. The casualties were 17 killed and more than 30 Injured. The scenes depicted show, from left to right:—1. Replacing the engine after the crash; the impact tore the entire front out of the engine. 2. A view of the first car (a second class smoker) next to the mail van. It was here that the worst casualties occurred. One side of the carriage is peeled off and only the skeleton of the roof left. 3.
