The submarine has been much discussed lately because of the loss of the Australian AEI and the sinking of three British cruisers in the North Sea last week by German submarines. It will be remembered that just before the war broke out there was a good deal of controversy in the English press as the result of a letter by Admiral Sir Percy Scott (who is mainly responsible for the splendid shooting efficiency of the British Navy), in which he asserted that "as the motor-vehicle has driven the horse from the road, so has the submarine driven the batttleship from the sea."
