BROAD GAUGE FROM TEROWIE TO PETERS-
BURG.
To the Editor.
Sir—I notice that a few individuals at Peters-
burg are ever on the alert at election times to
bluff into submission to their selfish wills any
narrow-minded candidate who may come along
seeking election, by getting him to promise to
help them in their selfish move of shifting the
break of gauge to Petersburg, irrespective of the
cost to the country or the loss and inconveni-
ence to their neighbours. I should, however, like
to remind them that their move is getting stale,
and not likely to bring forth fruit to their liking.
I suggest therefore that they should agitate to
have a canal cut from Port Pirie to Petersburg.
That would be no more ridiculous than shifting
the broad gauge to Petersburg. and it would be
more likely to meet their selfish ends, greatly
enhance the value of their property, and increase
their business; for it would make Petersburg
the metropolis of Australia. I hope that they
will see the wisdom of my suggestion.
I am, Sir, &c., C. A. B.
Terowie, July 30.
