Brisbane Municipal Council.
The ordinary fortnightly meoting of tho
Brlsbano Municipal Council was held yester
day afternoon, whon thoro wero prcsont— his
worship tho Mayor (in tho chair), and
Moisrs. Forrester, Warry, Galloway, Southal),
M'Moator, Heal, Watson, Hocker, and Sin
clair. The minutes of tho previous meeting,
and also of a special meeting hold on tho 22cd
October, woro read and confirmed.
Oorreopondenco.
Amongst tho correspondence woro lottors to
Messrs. Tigbo and Co., contractors for water
ing tho streets, conveying an intimation that
complaints had boon received of tho
porfunctory manner in which tho work
was being carried out. To tho Boo-
roodabin Divisional Board, asking if
tho board intended to join tho con
ference for tho pnrpoBO of considering tho
question of drainage, In so far as tbo drainage
works of ono local authority affects another.
From B. Campbell, inquiring upon what
torms tho council would bo willing to allow him
to re-establish and run tho ferry between
Ferry-strcot, Kangaroo Point, and Now Farm.
From the secretary to tho Brlsbano Gas Com
pany, repeating an application for permission
to lay a X4in. gaa main across tho Victoria
Bridgo in placo of the two malos at present in
ubo. From James Boycc, offering to supply
blno metal for road purposes at 5s. 10d, per
ton delivered io the city. From Messrs.
Wollaco and Welsby, offering to sell or lcaso to
thocorporationaportionof landonthoFaraifern
lino about four miles from Ipswich containing
an unlimited supply of metal well adapted for
road work. Tho letter fnrthor stated that &s
tho result of an interview with the Commis
sioner for Railways it was believed that a con
siderable reduotion would bo mado in.the matter
of freight ; also asking that tho council should
inspect tho property. From S. Cooper, nego
tiating with tho council for tho purchaso of his
property, adjoining tho'river, at Oxloy, where,
he says, there is an inexhaustible supply of
road metal. As an inducement tho writer
pointed oat that tho metal could be con
veyed to Brisbane by pnnta at a
small cost. From Joseph Thompson, Wool-
lahra, Sydney, stating that a piece of land at
Kangaroo Point, npon which tho corporation
.wore making improvements for purposes of a
public road, was his privato property, and
further intimating that ho intended to keep it.

informing the council that their application
for a farther loan of £GOOO for tho work in Ann
and adjoining streets had been- approved.

ment of thoir system for tho removal and
utilisation of nightsoil as applicable to tho

letter furnished fall particulars of the proposed
syatora, showing that tho idea of tho writer
was to lay tram rails across the bed of the river,
upon which a high cor would bo worked by an
ondlcss wire rope. Tho lotter was referred to
tho city engineer for report.

referred to tho various committees for con.

Tho report of tho city engineer upon tho
progress of works throughout the city was read.
Ifc waa agreed after a short discussion that
tno Legislativo Committee bring up a report
upon the moBtdcsfrablo way of conducting tho
Spring Hollow Bstlis.
On tho motion of Mr. Watson a hearty voto
of thanks was accorded Mr, Forrester for tho
satisfactory woy in which ho had conducted tho
business of tho council during tho Absonco of
tho mayor. Mr. Sinclair suggested that a
sum of money bo voted Mr. Forrester to recoup
him any cxponsea ho may havo incurred, but
Mr. Forrester declined to accept any.
City Assessors.
j !ettc.r waa received from the town clerk
and tho city accountant, asking tbat tho recent
resolution of tbo council, appointing them
joint city assessors, bo rescinded. Tho letter
stated that tho unpleasant and onerous dutios
which would fdcvolvo upon thom as valuers
might clash with tbo respective offices now held
by thom, hence their dcairo that tho appoint
ment bo not confirmed.
After somo discussion, during which Mr.
Sinclair suggested that a good man should
bo permanently appointed and act under tho
supervision of tho town clerk, and several
aldormcn had spoken in favour of tho appoint
ment, it was agreed that tho matter bo allowed
to remain as previously resolved by tho
council.
Mr. Galloway asked what action tho
Pft.?SF had taken in regard to the largo wooden
building which was being erected by Messrs.
Perkins and Co. in Margaret-atreot.
Tho Mayor replied that ho had givon notico
to tho owners to havo tho building removed.
Mr. Warry asked by what permission a
quantity of hoarding had been erected In Roma-
street. Ho thought tho hoarding waa a
disgraco to tho city, and thought that perhaps
tho Lands Department had allowed it to bo
orectcd.
Tbo Mayor said tho Government perhaps
wanted to ralao a littlo money by snpplying
advertising boards. He would ace what coula
bo dono in tho matter.
In reply to Mr, Hocker, tho city engineer
stated that tho report on the soundings for
tbo proposed high levol bridgo to Rivcr-tcrraco
would bo ready in abont two months.
Motions.
Two motions, of which notico had boon
given by Mr. Hockor, were referred to tbo
Works Committee.
Tbo Stratton Drain.
A special meeting was held during the after
noon for tho purposo of considering tho plana
prepared by the city engineer of tho works
necessary to rolievo tho Stratton drain of tho
sawagp complained of by tho Booroodabin
Board. After somo discussion tho plans and a
report accompanying them, which showed
that tho works In question wero thoso involved
in tho construction of a continuation of tho
present municipal drain from James-street to
tho river, woro, on tho motion of Mr.
Forrester, seconded by Mr. Warry, adopted,
and his worship tho mayor waa instructed to
glvo notico by odvertisemont In accordance
with tho 34th clause of tho Health Act that it
was tbo intention of tho council to commonco
tho construction of tho drain,
