"DOUBLE-TWELVE" TEST I
FOR LIGHT CARS !

Preliminary rules for an unusual
motor sporting event were drawn
up by the committee of the Vic
torian Light Car Club at a special
meeting last night.
Tho event will be the "double-
twelve hour" G-O.R. pelvol consump
tion reliability trial, to ho held from
Melbmime to Mt. Gambler (S.A.) and
return on September 15 and HI.
It will be run exclusively on C.O.Tl.
motor spirit, and to Mt. Gambler, by
way of Warrnaiubool. will be a trial
for best fuel consumption and for best
ton-mileage performances.
Competing cars will start from the
Ronvcric Street weighbridge at 6
a.m.. and will be required to reach
M:. Gambler in 12 hours' running
time. The only fuelling stop on the
run will be Wurrnumbool.
RKGVLATIONS j
Competing oavs will be divided into
S3fi. 1100. 1500 and 2000 c.c. engine
capacity classes, and each car must
start fully equipped with lamps,
horn, screen, hood, guards and pro
per body, and carry one passenger at
least.
Cars will be weighed with full load
i before starting, and each wiU have its
petrol tank sealed, after measured
filling with petrol. No spare spirit
cau be carried and breakage of tho
seal on the tank will mean disquali
fication.
i Upper cylinder lubricants, or fit- j
tings, are barred, and the only per- I
mitted additions to the engine arc
extra and hot air attachments, the
use of any induction of water or oil
vapor being prohibited.
During tho run alt repairs and ad
justments must bo mado in competi
tors running time and penalty for
late arrival at Warrnambool and Mt.
Gambler will be four ounces of petrol
a minute. Thoro will bo no restric
tions on early arrival.
For this 12 hour run there will be
prizes, donated by the Commonwealth
Oil Refineries, for the cars making the
best and second best average miles a
gallon in each class, and a prize for
the car making the best ton-mileage
also is offered in each class.

Ton-mileage prizes, however, will
only be awarded to ears which com
plete tho second 12-hour section of
the trial, this being a straight out de
pendability test back to Melbourne,
possibly with surprise sub-evonis.
On this run there will be frequent
time controls and set speed schcdnlos.
Points will bo deducted for :ate and
early arrival at controls, and the sys
tem of awarding prizes for this run
will be:—
At Mount Gambler the car making
the best ton-mileage in each class
will be awarded 100 points, and tho
other cars points in proportion to
performance. On arrival at Mel
bourne. points lost during the return
run will bo deducted from the origi
nal total, and the car finish bug with
most points will be the winner in
each class.
