SAD DROWNING FATALITY AT
MARLBOROUGH.
Word came to hand yesterday regarding
a very sad drowning fatality
which occurred on Sunday afternoon
near Marlborough (about 40 miles
above the Ouse), in which two
daughters of Mr. Thomas Wrigley,
aged 16 and 18 years respectively, met
their deaths. It appears that the two
girls were bathing in the Little Pine
River when the accident occurred. It
is not yet known how the fatality happened,
and it can only be surmised
that one of the girls got into difficulties,
and the other went to her help,
with the result that both were drown-
ed. The Little Pine River is a tributary
to the Nive River, which enters
the Derwent within the vicinity of
Lake Echo. An Inquest on the bodies
was to have been held at the Ouse yes
terday.
