    Public

There was a percussion tradition in Australia long before European colonisation. The drummers of the British military introduced a grim counterpoint to the indigenous tradition. In the last 50 years, immigration, 'world' music, new-age music and Asian and Pacfic influences have greatly increased the prominence of percussion playing.

Discover a range of percussion instruments and the Australians who played them in this theme.
