    Public

Perhaps the most ubiquitous of all instruments, Australia's very first piano arrived with Surgeon George Worgan on the First Fleet. The Gold Rush saw piano ownership increase amongst the lower classes - the start of a local piano manufacturing boom that lasted until the Great Depression. Furthermore, Australia has exported an impressive range of concert pianists.

Learn here just how important a role the piano has played in the musical life of Australia since European settlement.
