    Public

European colonists witnessed the dramatic public spectacles of Aboriginal ceremonies and social entertainments, and composers such as Isaac Nathan attempted to imitate the sounds they heard. In the 1940s, John Antill created an international sensation with his ballet Corroboree.

Here is a selection of resources relating to western interpretations of Australian Aboriginal music found in Australian collections.

Please note that works shown in this theme reflect attitudes of their time, and may cause offence to contemporary audiences.
