Summary
  • Parents who have children who play home video games should take an active role in selecting the games their children play because although the quality of these games is very good, the themes are often very violent. Many of these video games are based on arcade games where the violence in the videos was unknown to parents. Now that the games are in the home, companies are being forced to respond to the problem. Nintendo responded by removing most of the violence from its games. Sega decided to release two versions of its games, one version without the violence and another with all the violence but accessible only with a secret code. However, every game magazine published the code and the game became so popular that Sega is gaining on Nintendo in hardware sales. The most damaging aspect of these games is the interactivity, which allows players to participate in violent behavior.
