Summary
  • Corporations lose billions of dollars each year because of security breaches ranging from theft of sensitive information to outright siphoning of money from electronic funds transfer (EFT) systems. Sometimes losses result from unintentional slips by employees or simple human error. In any case, losses caused by compromised security can be minimized or eliminated. At many companies, a culture change will be needed. Employees need a mind set that causes them to perceive themselves as responsible for protecting their company's proprietary information. A company-wide information-security awareness campaign is often the best course of action. Typical campaign strategies and specifics are described and discussed.
