Summary
  • Cubans in Miami have said they will go to jail rather than allow Elian Gonzalez to be sent back to Cuba. They are opposed to the regime in Cuba and want him to be allowed to stay in the United States. However, the US government is preparing to send him back. Elian's father is in the US to negotiate with Justice Department officials and the Immigration and Naturalisation Service and they have promised he can have his son back. The Cuban community is adamant it will resist with force if necessary.
