Notes
  • Educating patients about the proper care and control of asthma is a major component of asthma management that is stressed in most consensus reports. Nurses play a key role in providing individuals with the instruction, advice and support they require to manage their asthma. Positive patient outcomes, including improved quality of life and self-management behaviours, have been demonstrated in asthma programmes involving qualified nurse educators. Morbidity and healthcare costs have also been reduced. Training the educators, nurses and other health professionals is essential in the provision of high quality care to individuals with asthma.
