  • The Rose Window in the North Transept; Delaporte no. 145, Deremble-Manhes no. 121; Upper Figures: St. Anne with the Infant Mary ; St. Anne stands frontally, holding the infant Mary. Both are haloed and wear veils over their heads. The inscription reads SANCTA ANNA. Anne holds a branch with three white flowers in one hand. Mary holds a red object (a book?); One of the most important relics at Chartres was the head of St. Anne, mother of the Virgin, which was brought from Constantinople after the Fourth Crusade in 1204. ; Compare with the trumeau of the central portal of the North Porch.; Lowest Panel: Arms of the royal house of France; Blue shield with gold fleur-de-lis; arms of the royal house of France. The patrons of this window were Blanche of Castille, queen of France and her husband King Louis VIII He may not have lived to see the completion of this window, since he died on November 8, 1226. It is also possible that King Louis IX, who succeeded his father, was also a patron.; General information:; Size: 7.44 by 1.71 meters; Lancets restored by Bonnot in 1886 and by F. Lorin in 1945-6.
