Summary
Story 1: For twenty years, an epidemic of petrol sniffing has devastated the remote Aboriginal community of Maningrida in Arnhem Land, NT. New research suggests that brain damage from petrol sniffing can repair itself if the abuse stops early enough. Story 2: Vampire Bats have copped a fair bit of press, but new research suggests that a protein found in the saliva of these blood-sucking creatures may actually hold the key to treating victims of stroke. Story 3: The Australian Institute of Sport have teamed up with the CSIRO to develop a remarkable new device for the sport of amateur boxing. It's a "Smart Vest" designed to keep track of the boxer's performance in the ring. Story 4: For her extraordinary research efforts at such a young age, Megan Fabbro was awarded the coveted Cure Cancer Australia Foundation, Young Researcher of the Year prize for 2007.
