Notes
In this paper the theoretical model of consumer’s decision making process is used to analyze attendance to libraries and reading habits in Spain. We put especial attention to how cultural capital influences the formation of individual preferences. We use the Spanish Cultural Consumption Habits Survey to estimate two ordered probit models to determine the factors influencing attendance to libraries and reading habits. We also estimate a count model to investigate reading intensity. We have found that cultural capital is a key factor in order to explain both activities and libraries are the main cultural infrastructure in small towns. Finally we can also conclude that reading could be a complementary activity of any other cultural commodity.
