Investment Gaining Momentum. Results of the Autumn 1989 Investment Survey
The latest WIFO survey suggests that in 1990 industrial production will again be spurred by strong overall demand growth. The long-standing lag in productivity vis-à-vis Germany may now be closed. The pace of investment spending is expected to accelerate from +9 percent (1989, at current prices) to +14 percent to attain an annual figure of AS 61 billion . The construction industry also envisages a marked increase in capital formation despite the recent slowdown in output growth. Investment by the electricity companies will continue to follow a rising trend while that of urban transport and public utilities, as in the last years, is dominated by works on the Vienna subway system.
