The Atlas presents a profile of the socioeconomic characteristics, health status and health service use of Australians through a series of colour maps in two volumes. Volume 1 includes data mapped by local government area for the capital cities and major urban centres, and many towns and rural areas across Australia. Volume 2 includes data from the 1989-90 National Health Survey mapped for statistical regions. The Atlas was produced by the South Australian Health Commission for the Commonwealth Department of Health, Housing and Community Services, with assistance from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
