Summary
  • Collection of lithographs depicting parrots and one of the first publications to record sightings of Australian parrots. It also records three parrots which are now extinct, the Cuban Macaw, the Carolina Parrot and the Mascarene Parrot. This edition retains the attitude and character of the original publication, but has been enhanced.
Biography
  • François Le Vaillant was a French explorer, collector and ornithologist. He published numerous works of natural history documenting over 500 new species. Jacques Barraband was the finest ornithological artist of his time. His most important work was produced for François Levaillant's three great ornithological monographs, the greatest of which was the Histoire Naturelle des Perroquets (1801-1805).
