Summary
Work being done at the semiconductor level is fueling the personal computer industry. It is the job of Microsoft to take major chip advances and provide the systems software foundation that will pass these technological advances along to the users. One of the company's major task is to create a system on the OS-2 that will allow users to perform multiple applications. Microsoft decided that taking a number of steps forward with OS-2 could create problems for everyone, so decided instead to do a complete operating system and do it all at once. The first requirement of OS-2 was to be compatible with all MS-DOS applications.
