Summary
  • File compatibility is a critical issue in the modernization of a law firm's computer system. Edward T. Kreiner Sr., director of administration for the Baltimore law firm of Miles and Stockbridge, has established a 'translation room' dedicated to the transfer of documents. A MAG card reader, an IBM Displaywriter and an IBM PC-AT are operated full-time by a staff member. PC-ATs have been used to establish stand-alone workstations throughout the office, and the firm also has two IBM System-36 computers. The firms' choice of IBM equipment has been 'validated by good performance' with high reliability and low maintenance. The firm also uses computerized billing, data management and information retrieval systems.
