Summary
T1 switch vendor Avanti Communications Corp hires former Telenet Communications Corp Senior VP Tom Taylor as its new president. Taylor brings with him experience as president of value-added network provider Uninet, which was acquired by Telenet in 1986, and with GTE Corp's independent telephone company division. Taylor's background meshes well with Avanti's aim of providing switching for integrated private and service-based networks. Avanti specifically seeks to gain market ground with growing Fortune 500 companies that incorporate private T1 networks and may want to interface with carrier-based services. Taylor feels he is not abandoning Telenet, which is profitable beyond expectations so far in 1987. The new Avanti president anticipates 100 percent annual revenue growth for his new firm, which is estimated to have had 8 percent of the T1 switch market in 1986.
