  • Dee R. Winterton was born in Midvale, Utah, in 1935. As a young man, he worked closely with his father on the family cattle ranch, raising prize-winning steers. As a professor in the Dance Department at Brigham Young University, Dee worked closely with the Lamanite Generation, the Young Ambassadors' touring group, and musical theater productions. Dee also oversaw choreography of revues at Sundance, Utah for several years. He and his wife, Maureen, were the parents of four sons, Brad, Greg, Rolph, and Jay Dee. Dee was killed in an automobile accident on 15 October 1984. ; This collection consists of nine journals spanning the years from 1971-1984, which chronicle Dee Winterton's experience as a professor at Brigham Young University, his work with the Ririe-Woodbury dance company, touring with the Brigham Young University Young Ambassadors, and his life with his family in those same years. Also included in the collection are personal papers, correspondence, and photographs relating to Dee's teaching career, family life, and touring experiences. ; Dee R. Winterton was born in Midvale, Utah, in 1935. As a young man, he worked closely with his father on the family cattle ranch, raising prize-winning steers. He traveled extensively as a result of this activity, including trips to California for national exhibitions. Dee also served a mission in North Carolina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also call Mormon or LDS Church).After completing his college education, Dee toured with the Ririe-Woodbury dance company, and participated in residencies in association with the Artists in Schools foundation. Later, as a professor in the Dance Department at Brigham Young University, Dee worked closely with the Lamanite Generation, the Young Ambassadors-- touring group, and musical theater productions. He also oversaw choreography of revues at Sundance, Utah for several years. Dee and his wife, Maureen, were the parents of four sons, Brad, Greg, Rolfe, and Jay Dee. Brad and Greg served successful missions, both of which are mentioned in Dee--s journals. Rolfe died at the age of ten, of cystic fibrosis. This troubling time is also recorded in Dee--s journals.Dee was killed in an automobile accident on 15 October 1984. ; This collection consists of nine journals of Dee Winterton, dating between 1971 and 1984. Some years are missing. Each journal is accompanied by a typescript. The journals have been grouped chronologically, each followed by its typescript. Also included in the collection are the personal papers of Dee Winterton. When the material was donated to L. Tom Perry Special Collections, it was already in file folders which Dee Winterton had labeled. The contents of each folder has remained as organized by the creator, indicated in the register by the designation of --œcontents of a folder originally labeled,-- etc. The folders themselves have been re-arranged according to which performing group or professional organization they pertain to. The majority of the documents in the collection relate to Dee--s dance career and theatrical experiences.
