  • Edward Hunter Snow was a son of Erastus Snow. He was born 23 June 1865 in St. George, Utah, and died in Salt Lake City on 18 July 1932. During his long life, much of which was spent in St. George, Utah, he was active in religious and community affairs. He served as President of the LDS St. George Stake (1901-1925), President of the LDS St. George Temple, and was a founder of Dixie College (originally called St. George Stake Academy). He was also active in the economic development of the St. George area, including the founding of the Southwest Utah Telephone Company, The Bank of St. George, and the St. George Building Society. He attended Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah, from 1882 to 1885, graduating with a normal certificate that led to a teaching position in Santa Clara, Utah. He married Hannah Nelson in September 1885. He served an LDS mission to the Southern States (1886-1887), and was President of the Eastern States Mission from 1899 to 1901. He was the youngest member of the Utah State Constitutional Convention in 1895. He was elected to the first Utah State Senate in 1896. He also served on the Utah State Tax Commission. This collection consists of the journals and papers of Edward Hunter Snow. It includes family correspondence, autobiographical material, notebooks, many letters to his wife Hannah, mission journals, Erastus Snow letters, and other activities. There are also typescripts of Edward Snow letters dating from 1882-1921 (Box 1, fd. 20). Edward Hunter Snow was a son of Erastus Snow. This collection includes family correspondence, autobiographical and biographical material of Edward H. Snow, journals, notebooks, documents, and miscellaneous papers. There are also newspaper clippings and published materials about Snow, as well as several photographs of Snow family members.The correspondence is largely from Snow to his wife, Hannah, and was written at the time of Snow's mission to the Southern States in the 1880's. There are also letters from Snow's father, Erastus Snow, to Snow ans Snow's wife. There is a sympathy letter from Heber J. Grant to Snow's family written on the occasion of Snow's death. Much of the correspondence has been transcribed and bound together; these letters are also included in the collection. The journals cover his mission to the Southern States and his mission to the Eastern States. There is a souvenir book of the first Utah State Legislature, of which Snow was a member, and there are newspaper clippings and articles relating to Snow's work with the Utah State Tax Commission, St. George Temple, and Southern Utah State College.
