Summary
Enterprise bargaining is not a new process for universities. However, due to the changes in industrial relations legislation, specifically the Workplace Relations Act, 1996 the nature of enterprise bargaining has changed. Today, individual universities must bargain about a myriad of issues affecting them both at the national level, such as wages and conditions, and at the individual enterprise, such as childcare facilities and employee involvement processes. As such, this paper seeks to address the impact the enterprise bargaining has had on the stakeholders in the university systems in terms of workload and industrial democracy.
