The development of an indigenous western land ethic is discussed. The focus is on the land ethic expressed by Ngarinman and Ngaliwurru people in the communities of Yarralin and Lingara in Australia's Northern Territory. It is argued that any land ethic that is not human-centred necessarily entails knowledge of other living species and systems to enable responsible action.
