The region from the Northern Masson Range across to Mount Henderson the was first visited by an ANARE party led by surveyor D.R. Carstens in November, 1962.
The Danish polar vessel Thala Dan (Captain H. C. Petersen) sailed from Melbourne on January 5th, 1961, to relieve the Australian scientific stations at Davis and Mawson and to carry out exploratory and scientific work along the coast of Enderby Land. Mr. D. R. Carstens, licensed surveyor, was also included in the expedition to assist in all surveying activities.
Transparency map of the survey team sent from Mawson Station to map the region to its southeast of the Brown Range at latitude of S 68°30'. The area covered is the Masson Range due south of Mawson to the Casey Range and the David Range in the west and as far as the McNair Nunatak to the east. Note that tracks of the teams have only been pencilled on the sheet. A list of visible sites from Van Hullsen Nunatak has been penned. Height in metres.
