Summary
  • Pictured: Thomas Martin Tripcony with his wife Catherine Abercrombie, nee:Buchanan and three of their children; presumably their eldest Constantine (Con) James Tripcony, Andrew and Tom junior. Taken on the veranda of the family home Cowie Bank, near Toorbul on the Pumicestone Passage. Thomas M. Tripcony and Catherine were married in Melbourne in 1861. Thomas Tripcony senior selected 1100 acres on the Pumicestone Passage between Glass Mountains Creek and Hussey Creek in 1861 and built 'Cowie Bank' some time later. He took up an oyster license in front of Cowie Bank in 1874 and in September 1879 he had the Pumicestone Passage surveyed and beaconed by the crew of the Shadow. His son Andrew opened Caloundra's first Store at his Black Flat residence in 1910 and son Con Tripcony was also involved in the oyster trade.
