Notes
  • The business cycle recovery in Austria is losing momentum, but the risk of a relapse into recession appears small. Growth is set to decelerate even beyond 1995, caused by the only moderate rise of demand in Western Europe on the one hand, and by the short-term impact of the effective schilling revaluation and higher competitive pressure on the other, forcing certain sectors of the economy to adjust. Heightened competitive pressure contributes towards a marked increase in the current account deficit, but should also dampen domestic inflation and boost consumer welfare.
