Notes
  • Energy demand is rising strongly in 1990. In the first half year, consumption increased substantially as much more fuel was required for electricity generation due to the lack of rainfall; in the second half, the steep rise in oil prices has led to hectic inventory build-ups. In the first six months demand for natural gas expanded particularly strongly, but also demand for coal because of more intensive use being made of thermal power plants. Energy costs rose markedly. Imports were much higher than a year ago, both in volume and price terms.
