Summary
Arab culture has traditionally drawn a clear distinction between the erotic and the pornographic in literature, but not in the visual arts. Erotic literature, including the poetry of Ka'b ibn Zuhayr and Hassan ibn Thabit, is highly valued, whereas similar representations in the visual arts would be considered pornographic. However, Arab culture could be enriched by extending appreciation for the erotic into the visual arts.
