Summary
The exemption of the US president George W. Bush and his proxies from International and Congress made law governing war crimes such as torture is less an expression of a specifically functional rationality than a symbolic act aiming to expand the zone where power operates without rights. The failure to interrogate and effectively confront the way that contemporary displays of US state power both enjoin old and fabricate new murderous divisions within humanity has placed the entire world in danger in the 21st century.
