  • The disintegrating body of Death rides in a cart adorned with skulls. Standing on a coffin, Death yields a scythe, mowing down men and women of various stations and occupations while the wheels of his chariots, its spokes composed of bones, crushes their corpses. Death, the great equalizer, is indiscriminate in his destruction, oblivious to Wealth, power, innocence or ecclesiastic authority. In the background are two juxtaposing scenes that represent the aftermath of death: the burning brimstone and flames of Hell on the left and the tranquil light of Heaven on the right.
