Summary
Findings of a study reveal that the human capital is the 'true' determinant of survival and that the correlation between financial capital and survival is not true. Provision of finance is discovered to be influenced by demand, with banks supplying funds elastically and business requests controlling take-up. Firms self-select for funds based on the human capital endowments of the proprietors with 'better' businesses more likely to make a borrowing.
