Notes
  • Record level- This document describes field research done on the Navajo reservation to investigate the problem of communicating medical diagnoses with a different culture (non-European). In this study 45 doctors, nurses and health educators were observed by an anthropologist working with Navajo patients. Outlined are culturally determined differences and the fact that languge is important; therefore, the role of the interpreter is important. Cultural beliefs are also important in the diagnosis of the patient. Includes section on how Navajo experience and perceive pain. Suggestions are made for further study.
