Notes
  • The John Werner Welland Papers (1951-2000) consist of materials that focus on Welland's career in the United States Air Force. Included are correspondence, diplomas, medical and personnel records, passports, death records, and other papers. Welland (1933-1991) was born in New York and was one of many who became known as an "Atomic Veteran" due his work for the Air Force during the atmospheric nuclear testing program carried out by the United States in the 1940s to 1960s. Many of the materials in this collection result from Welland's years living in Spain (ca. 1989-1991) and are, therefore, written in Spanish. Social Security numbers were cut out of select documents by the donor.; Boxes 1-2 were donated by Betsey Stout in March 2004 (.75 lin. ft.).; Personal and Professional Papers; Death; Department of Justice and the Veteran's Administration; Diplomas; Medical Records; Personal and Professional Papers; Oversees Work Documents; Passports; United States Air Force, Personnel Records; Miscellaneous; Reports, certificates, and a letter regarding Welland's death while living in Spain.; Correspondence, statements, newsletters, and information packets regarding Welland's status as an Atomic Veteran as well as the benefits status for Welland's widow.; This folder also contains a letter concerning a diploma Welland received from the Cleveland Institute of Technology.; Most of these records are in Spanish.; Correspondence, work orders, certificates, travel vouchers, and other papers.
  • Audio-visual materials were transferred to the Multimedia Division of Special Collections (A0791).
