  • The U.S. West Research Papers (1850-1999) is a collection of historical and architectural surveys of businesses and cities in the West and Midwest of the United States. These surveys sometimes include oral histories, as well as photographs taken of various buildings. The collection includes a history of the Forest Products Laboratory (FPL), as well as surveys of various cities and national parks in Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Michigan, and Utah. A large portion of the collection contains "Dead Files" which contain proposal materials for national, state, and local public history projects. Some of the information for these proposals come from Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Mines, U.S. Air Force and Military Services, as well as from many other sources.; Boxes 1-119 were donated in December 1999 (62.5 lin. ft.). Boxes 120-130 were donated in June 2006 (5.25 lin. ft.).; History of the U.S. Forest Products Laboratory (FPL); History of the U.S. Forest Products Laboratory (FPL); Original Manuscript "History of Forest Products Laboratory"; Manuscript Rough Draft; Biblliography for FPL; FPL Goals and Addresses; Correspondence; FPL External History Correspondence; Miscellaneous Notes to FPL Project; New Directions for Science; Periodical Distribution Scheme; History of the U.S. FPL and Brown County Surveys; FPL General Chronology; FPL Miscellaneous Articles; FPL Chicago Federal Record Center; FPL Thematic Outline; FPL Oral History Project; FPL Correspondence; FPL Project; FPL Contract; Manuscript Rough Draft; Changes to Manuscript; Contract FPL Project; Budget Proposal for FPL; FPL Archive Records; FPL Proposal; Brown Country, South Dakota Phase V Historical and Archeitctural Survey; Chippewa St. North; Blank Forms; South Minnesota Avenue; Tacoma Park; Mansfield Community History; Brown County Territorial; Field File; Brown County Territorial; Brown Country, South Dakota Phase V Historical and Architectural Survey; Works Projects Administration (WPA); Miscellaneous Brochures; Third Census of the State of South Dakota; Harold Briggs; Resources of Dakota; J.
