MS 1097 comprises a collection of medieval and later manuscripts including prayer books, bibles and essays collected by various members of the Clifford family and relating mainly to Roman Catholicism. The collection includes the Cartulary of the Benedictine Abbey of St Peter at Chertsey, Surrey, England. There is also one folder of correspondence of Charles Clifford, 6th Baron Clifford, 1812-1825 (76 items).
The collection was the family library of the late Baron Clifford of Chudleigh and was sold to the National Library in 1963 by his heir Colonel Hon. Hugh Clifford of Ugbrooke Park, Cudleigh, Devon, England.
