Printed version of a typescript diary originally produced in multiple carbon copies for forwarding to family and friends. The diary covers Stokes' life as a policeman in Darwin in 1937, at Elcho Island, long periods in the outback on patrol, and finally his time in charge of the police district of Maranboy, south of Katherine, which was then a tin mining camp; contemporary photographs are also included, as well as some family history.
John William Stokes was a Northern Territory policeman, 1938-58; Australian official representative on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, 1958-60, and on Christmas Island, 1960-66; Department of the Territories, Canberra, 1966-70.
Limited family edition of 61 copies, not for sale or commercial distribution.
