Summary
  • Documents a new analysis of the Gallipoli disaster. Involves the examination of the original maps used by British intelligence to plan the landings. This reveals gross inaccuracies, with the hills, contours and ridges of the area missing from these maps, thereby providing a false sense of the area. Involves also a search of the battlefields and the sea for evidence/remains of the tragedy. Importantly, there was a lack of information about the superiority of the Turkish defence. While the Turkish was fully aware of the planned invasion and were waiting armed with the latest machine guns, with efficient firing capability. The Allied soldiers who landed at Gallipoli were faced with an impossible task, from the very beginning. No amount of leadership or planning, in London, could have defeated an unbeatable combination. Questions why it was allowed to happen. Footage of geologist, Peter Doyle as he investigates, and explains that the terrain of Gallipoli was an even more brutal enemy, than the Turkish troops. Includes selected archival footage of the scenes of fighting at Gallipoli; and contributions from experts, such as archaeologists, geologists and army personnels.
