  • A letter to the editor agrees that the Utah Act should be repealed, which would dissolve the Utah government. Like Democratic nominee Stephen Douglas, he believes this should be done because the Mormons are traitors, not because they practice polygamy. The government does not have the right to interfere in the Mormon religion. The author spoke to Brigham Young, who said that he will submit to the government provided that it leaves polygamy alone. The author addresses other issues relevant to the upcoming election.
