The Mormon practice of polygamy has been going on for thirty years despite many obstacles: time, the Pacific railroad, the death of Brigham Young, and the Edmunds Act have all failed to bring polygamy to an end, even though Mormon leaders like Bishop G. Q. Cannon insist that polygamy no longer exists. Mormonism is spreading across the country and across the globe, and even Mormons who do not condone polygamy will probably support Mormonism in a conflict with the government.
