  • A discussion of who will replace Brigham Young as leader of the Church. If the Church follows precedent, John Taylor will assume leadership. Orson Pratt would be satisfactory, but he is absent. George Q. Cannon is an aspirant but does not have much of a chance, and nor does Brigham’s son John W. Young or Joseph Smith’s son David Smith. The writer remarks that whoever the successor is, “the office must come to him, not he to the office.”
